Herpa Launch a New Airbrush

Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 03:02 AM GMT

By JIM RAE
The German maufacturer, Herpa are better known for a range of small-scale vehicles & aviation subjects. Now though, the company has launched its own Air-Brush.

Recently, this year's Nuremberg Trade Fair, I had a chance to speak to the company when one of their people was demonstrating the new product.

The Herpa Airbrush, is, at first glance, a pretty robust-looking tool which going by its price seems ideally suited as an 'entry-level' AB. The design is simple and there are several which call the attention. Maintenance is, unlike other ABs, pretty minimal. Due to the design of the needle and front nozzle, these simply unplug for cleaning or changing colors. The needle is a pretty simple design as well - easily plugging into the nozzle head.

A Short Test-Drive

Conveniently, I had a chance to 'test-drive' it at the show and while (at first) it feels pretty 'clunky' after a few seconds though, it does feel pretty comfortable in the hand.

With ability to replace the nozzles quicky is undoubtedly an enormous advantage. Also the low-price of the nozzles, makes it possible to use a variety of different mediums - would you REALLY want to spay Mr. Surfacer thru an IWATA?

There do seem to be some limitations as well. At the present moment only one nozzle size is available - .03mm spraying larger areas would definitely be time-consuming. Some larger (and smaller) diameter nozzles would be VERY desirable.

I do get the impression that this is definitely along the lines of an 'entry-level' AB although some pretty precise control can be exercised with the AB.

Cost for 371063 - Basic Set is around €50. For more details, Herpa have an on-line store:
